Brief Summary
The ChAFTA Certificate of Origin is a proof that products originate from either Australia or China and comply with the regulations within the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement.
a. Objective(s)

A COO must be issued by an authorised body in the country of origin and may need to be provided, on request, to customs officials in the importing country. A COO applies to a single shipment. It may cover one or more goods, but must not exceed 20 items (that is, 20 unique goods) and may be valid for up to one year.

b. Business need for the project (background)

Exchange Certificate Of Origin based on the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA), which entered into force on 20 December 2015, paves the way for the next phase of Australia's economic relationship with China. The agreement unlocks significant opportunities for Australia in China, which is Australia's largest export market for goods and services, accounting for nearly a third of total exports, and a growing source of foreign investment. The China–Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) was signed by Trade and Investment Minister Andrew Robb and Chinese Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng on 17 June 2015 in Canberra, Australia. The implementing legislation for ChAFTA received the Royal Assent on 11 November 2015 and entered into force on 20 December 2015.
